Tourism Publication

The Student Resource Guide is a first of its kind resource for teachers and student travel planners. The goal of this publication was to help students travel guides and teachers have all the tools they need to plan a student trip to Branson but also to engage students. This brought an interesting challenge in designing the spreads, not only did it need to be informative and easy to navigate but also fun and engaging for students. Below you can read my thought processes for each of the sections and articles I designed. Click here to read the Student Guide and see my illustrations and layouts.

Drive to Branson mustang illustration (page 2): This mustang was created for the 2024 Vacation Guide and was picked up for this publication as it matches well with Branson’s overall brand colors.

Discover The Ozarks layout and illustrations (pages 4 - 11): This section is a sister piece to the 2024 Vacation Guide article “Choose Your Own Lake Day” and the Conservation Section of the Group Tour and Reunion Planner. Overall the piece ties together our present and past conservation and inspires students to explore the Ozark Mountains.

Attractions & Adventure layout (pages 28-33): This section focuses on the student friendly adventures available in Branson and is also a sister piece to the Family Friendly Fun piece in the 2024 Vacation Guide. To convey this I took inspiration from the bright and bold designs of risograph printing and brought in elements of journaling.

Interactive Learning layout and illustrations (pages 36-41): This section is inspired by scientific journals and many of my own scientific journal assignments I received in school. Through the watercolor illustrations and photo treatments I wanted this piece to feel pulled straight out of a students science journal after visiting Branson.

Dining layout (pages 50-53): This section was inspired by Americana dining menus, with a modern twist. I wanted to bring life to a more informational section with bright pops of color and interesting typefaces.

Educational Opportunities layout and icons (page 54): This section needed to match the rest of the non article parts of the guide. To do this I collaborated with the creative director for font style and colors. I added icons to each section to help teachers and travel planners quickly decide which section best fit their student group.
